If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front

If a Tree Falls A Story of the Earth Liberation Front is a documentary film by filmmaker Marshall Curry, exploring the origins, motives, and organization of the Earth Liberation Front and Ecoterrorism in general. Additionally, it explains how the Department of Justice was able to find and arrest Daniel McGowan and his coconspirators in a nationwide sweep in December 2005 and raises questions as to whether or not they deserved to be sentenced as terrorists.

If a Tree Falls A Story of the Earth Liberation Front won the award for Best Documentary Editing at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, was theatrically released by Oscilloscope Laboratories and earned director Marshall Curry his second Academy Award nomination. Kenneth Turan at the Los Angeles Times called it one of the best documentaries of the year and the New York Times said it was an extraordinary documentary... a fearless exploration of complexity in a world drawn to oversimplified depictions of events and problems, heroes and villains.
